The New Zealand Residence With A 267 sqm Foor Area

This stylish contemporary residence is located at 36 Sylvan Way, Silverstream, Upper Hutt, New Zealand. It was designed for Mr. Phillip Blundell & Mrs. Helen Blundell. The house sits 2,100 square meter site. The total floor area is 267 square meters, the terraces measure approximately 150 square meters and the landscape is over 450 square meters. The residence was a project by Studio MWA who worked with structural engineers Meyers and Associates Ltd.- Wellington and builder Maridale Construction LTD. – Upper Hutt.

The project was unique and exciting from the start. The clients requested a functional, innovative and sustainable design. The residence was designed to accommodate the owners’ everyday needs and it has also been designed wheel-chair-friendly. It features an enclosed area of 267 square meters and a large covered outdoor living area with a large deck designed around a garden and a big pond.

The clients knew exactly what they wanted and they made that clear from the beginning. The architects received a brief of more than 10 pages. They wanted the residence to have no internal/external boundaries and obstructions, to be comfortable, safe and accessible. They also wanted a large outdoor living area with spaces for exercise, gardening and entertaining. The clients also wanted maximized usage of sun and passive solar energy. They requested under floor heating, solar panels for hot water, double glazing and thermal insulation.

The architects worked closely with the clients and they came up with the perfect design. The new residence has a tripe garage, an entry hall, a gallery, an open plan including the kitchen and the living room, a dining area, a separate formal living and dining area, a master bedroom with walk-in closet, two separate guest bedrooms and a separate bathroom, a studio, a laundry room, a storage room and a covered deck with a spa pool.
