Single level contemporary home in Orcas Island in Washington State, USA

This lovely contemporary home is located on Orcas Island in Washington State, USA.It was a project by Seattle-based studio Gary Gladwish Architecture. The owner of this residence dreamed at this house for more than 40 years. Now she finally got her dream home.

When she first bought the land on which this residence was built, it was covered with madrone trees, firs, beech, thistle, moss and rocks. It also offered beautiful views to the west of the San Juan and Canadian Gulf islands. Most of the rocks and trees disappeared but the views are more beautiful than ever. The other elements also played an important role when the owner chose the site as rocks and nature in general played an important role in the artwork she created.

The client requested an open/ simple and low maintenance design for her new house. She also wanted the house to be built in such a way that it would allow views of the island and forest. The residence features a kitchen/dining/living area, a study, a master suite, an art studio and a storage area. It’s enough for the owner. Among the materials used to build this place we could mention old barn wood, rusty steel, moss and rocks. The house has large sliding doors and beautiful indoor-outdoor combinations, just how the owner likes it.{found on homedsgn}
