Tiny houses, especially the ones that are designed to be mobile and able to be relocated with ease, provide a lot of insight into just how much you can accomplish with a tiny amount of space. They show that space limitations are other challenges can be gracefully overcome and can inspire some very interesting design approaches.
A small wooden deck can be attached to the entrance when the trailer is parked
Today we’re checking out the Retreat, a craftsman-style tiny home that has a really inviting and cozy-looking design both inside and out. It was created by Timbercraft Tiny Homes and it’s one of their older models. What you can immediately notice upon seeing it is that it’s built on a gooseneck trailer, the type that attaches onto a hitch in the bed of a truck instead of at the bumper. That gives it this rather unique and unusual shape and accounts for the interesting layout inside the house.
The deck and awning mark the entrance and add depth to the houseThe opposite side is quite flat but still has a very strong farmhouse-inspired lookInside this tiny house there’s actually enough space for a living area, a kitchen, a bathroom and two bedroomsThe kitchen has an L-shaped counter and is framed by the oven and the fridge
This tiny house is 33′ long but if we also take into account the protrusions on either side it’s actually 37′ long. This space was used wisely to create inside a cozy living room, a kitchen, a bathroom and separate bedrooms. The entrance is marked by double doors with wooden frames and glass panels. When the trailer is parked, a small wooden deck can be attached at the front, with a little awning above the doors which provides a small area for enjoying the outdoors from. Inside, the house feels very cozy thanks to the pine flooring and dark-stained ceiling but it’s also quite bright thanks to the white pine walls.
The side opposite to the kitchen features a white divider wall that conceals the bathroom
A small window opens up the kitchen and makes it feel less closed in
The kitchen is tucked into one side, featuring a freestanding gas range, a stainless steel full-size refrigerator generously-sized cabinets that provide lots of storage and plenty of counter space as well. There’s also a small window centered on the back wall above the sink.
Above the kitchen is one of the loft bedrooms which can be accessed via a ladderAnother bedroom sits at the opposite end and this one has a built-in wardrobe
The living room takes up the central area, being furnished with a comfortable couch and a custom-built unit with an electric fireplace as a centerpiece. Then there’s also the bathroom which has a tub, a toilet and a vanity and the loft bedrooms which can be accessed via a set of storage stairs and respectively a ladder. They’re connected by a catwalk that goes over the couch in the living area.
The bedrooms are connected by a catwalk with a metal railing and windows on the outer wallThe bathroom is big enough for a bathtub, with space left for a toilet and a vanityThere’s another small window in the bathroom for proper ventilation and a bit of natural lightingThe house can be easily relocated, being the perfect private retreat for adventures around the world
