Architects have proven us time and time again that you can make marvelous things using simple and basic materials and that the idea behind the project is just as important as the way in which it’s executed. On that note, we’re looking at an interesting house which is located in Brazil.
The house is built from simple materials such as concrete, stone, steel, wood and glass
It was designed and built by studio Costaveras Arquitetos and it’s modeled after a very unusual and specific concept. The client found inspiration in an image of a house that had been used as a filming location for a sci-fi movie. Using that as reference, the architects came up with a plan to create a house that looks and feels similar but that’s also designed specifically for their client and their needs. The result was this amazing two-story concrete house.
The ground floor maintains a constant connection with the outdoor through a large open terrace and a covered deckThe lower two flors are separated by a metal surface which extends to form a large pergola outside
The house is structured into three big volumes which are intertwined and communicate with each other in various ways. As a general rule, the lower and upper levels have different functions. Down below is where all the social areas are situated. The living room and the kitchen are connected and there’s also a home theater, a wine cellar and a beautiful balcony which can be accessed via large sliding doors.
The warm wood contrasts with the rest of the materials and soften their harsh and industrial nature
That allows the interior to open up to the outdoors and brings the house closer to its beautiful surroundings. The upper floor houses the master suite with its large closet and two extra bathrooms as well as a large terrace and sunroom with the best views in the house. In total there’s 393 square meters of space to be enjoyed all year round, a beautiful yard with a swimming pool and a perfect green lawn to contrast with all the concrete and stone on the exterior of the house.
The house has a simple and modern geometry with clean lines and few unnecessary details or texturesThere’s also a spacious covered parking space at the rear of the house, connected to a stone wallThe site has a gentle slope which inspired the architects to orient the house towards the lowest pointThe rough stone blends well with the concrete and the wood, serving as an intermediary between the other materialsThe interior is nice and open, with lots of natural light and a breezy feel, especially during summerA large glass door marks the main entrance and leads into the living area, with a direct view through the whole volumeThe house as a whole does a good job at mimicking its natural surroundings in a way that feels modern and stylish
