Showing sensibility towards the topographical and cultural context of a building is a nice way to ensure that the structure will fit into its surroundings. That’s a strategy used by large companies such as Google when building localized headquarters and also a one that guided this amazing-looking building from Surat, India.
The Sangini House is a striking building which helps to revitalize the surrounding area
This is Sangini House, an office designed for a construction firm entitled Sangini Group which was established in 1984. It’s a project completed in 2019 and the result of a collaboration between studios Urbanscape Architects and Utopia Designs.
The building is tall and quite narrow, with lots of smooth curves and a slender silhouette
The building is eight stories tall although from certain perspectives it looks like a five-storey structure. Its design is harmonized with the surrounding area and responds to the heritage and the context of the site. At the same time, the architects approached this less as an office building and more like a work of art.
The glazed sections provide a panoramic view of the surrounding area
They gave it a sculptural and eye-catching design with lots of interesting elements. There’s cantilevered floor plates and a stone shell that wraps around the central core of the building as well as the 5th and 6th floors. The perforated facade contrasts with the rest of the exposed concrete surfaces and the glazed sections of the building.
For the interior a simple and industrial-looking design was chosenThe perforated facade lets light through and creates a beautiful backdropOne of the main goals for the interior was to create a series of flexible and open spaces
The architects also focused on creating a column-free interiorThe cantilevered sections have balconies with greenery flowing down from themThere’s also lots of greenery climbing down across the edges of the structureFrom down below it’s easier to see just how open some of the areas within the building areThe perforated facade has a beautiful brick0inspired color which contrasts with the concrete and the glassThe red terracotta-like color gives the building lots of visual appeal and characterThe exposed concrete walls and ceilings give the interior a strong industrial characterThe curved and slender aesthetic of the building is carried on inside as wellBoth the interior and exterior design is characterized by the use of natural and raw materials and finishesThe ruggedness of the concrete is complemented by the warmth of the wood and the bold accent colorsThe building as a whole has a very sculptural and eye-catching look
