Situated in a small clearing surrounded by dense forests in British Colombia, Canada, this lovely retreat adapts beautifully to its natural context. What stands out the most and for good reason is the unusual geometry and odd proportions of the house.
The house’s angular design and unusual geometry actually help it blend in with trees
This is a building with an irregular shape and that gives it a very modern look. That translates into a series of peculiar characteristics related to the interior design such as the different heights caused by the angular ceiling.
The interior areas are organized around the social spaces and extend out onto a small wooden deck
This modern forest retreat was designed by Campos Studio. It sits on a slightly sloped site and has a solid base that blends in with the terrain. Everything above this line is covered in black metal panels and wooden slats. At the center of the house stands a blackened steel column. Around it is the social area composed on the living room, kitchen and dining area. The owner’s bedroom is placed on one end of the house and the guest bedroom occupies the opposite end. They’re the private sections of the house. The center is by contrast open and enjoys a close connection to the outdoors.
A large blackened steel column runs through the living area and mimics a tree trunk
Inside, some of the walls and ceilings are covered in wood which contrast with the concrete floors and create a warm and inviting ambianceThe geometric layout exposes the central section of the house to the forest and even gives a glimpse at the seaThe house is surrounded by dense forests and also gets to enjoy a view of the seaMost the of the walls inside the house are white which looks very clean and stylish in combination with the wooden ceilingsThe dark exterior helps the structure blend into the landscape and gives it a modern-industrial appearanceThe interior and exterior spaces are unified and work in unison to create a very inviting ambiance
