The idea behind this rather unusual-looking building was to create a structure which doesn’t follow any trends and is not defined by time, technology or by a specific style. That effectively turns this building into a timeless or better said atemporal construction. The inspiration for its design came from the typical sheds found in the Chilean countryside which surrounds the house. This was a project completed in 2019 by architecture studio 2172 / asociados.
The top and bottom sections of the house have two very different and contrasting designsInside the shed there are two main voids/ one being on the ground floorA selection of locally-sourced materials was used to create a sense of belonging and to help the shed blend in
The site on which the structure was built is quite large and surrounded by trees. It slopes down towards a lake and offers a series of beautiful and relaxing views. The house itself seeks to become a part of the landscape and it manages to do that by retaining a shed-like design and using locally-sourced materials which reference the surroundings. The horizontal bottom half of the house is clad in wood and has a barn-like design. The top half has a gabled roof, clean lines and a mode abstract and modern appearance.
At the center of the house there’s a double-height space, this being the second voidThe bottom half of the building blend in with the landscape, making the top half stand out by contrastA variety of different styles and materials were used throughout this project, the goal being to create something unique and timelessThe bottom half of the shed blend in with the land while the top half blend in with the skyThe site features a steep slope which goes down towards the nearby lakeThis atemporal artifact is located in Chile and was completed in 2019
