After remaining abandoned for a few years, a beautiful site in the Regional Park area of Vilnius, Lithuania was brought back to life by studio arches. They were immediately greeted here by a friendly dog who stayed and guarded the house after the former owners moved out and now it gets to call this new place home.
The main house features a mostly traditional aesthetic with hints of modern design
The architects recognized the wonderful potential of the site which is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and has lovely views so they tried to take advantage of this as much as possible through the new design. The goal of the project was to revive the abandoned house and to basically reconstruct it from the ground up. Due to local regulations they were limited to a traditional style which actually suits this place perfectly.
The house is connected to a storage building which occupies the lower section of the siteBoth structures have traditional designs dictated by the local building regulations and they make use of wood shingles for the outer wallsLarge windows were designed to frame the beautiful panorama and to give the interior a modern vibe
There are two separates elements in this project. One is the main house which sits in the upper area of the site where the view is the best and the other is a warehouse positioned on the lower section of the property. The two are connected by a stone rubble path that extends around both structures.
The main house offers 257 square meters of interior living space in total
The asymmetrical shape of the roof suggests a modern redesign but still allows the house to maintain a traditional aesthetic
The buildings have a very similar aesthetic. Their facades are covered in cedar wood shingles and they’re complemented by window and door frames made of copper which blend in easily. The main house has large glazed areas on the ground floor as well as openings at the top which are meant to establish a strong relationship with the site and to frame the beautiful views. In contrast, the warehouse has a more solid and closed off design which puts more emphasis on its overall traditional shape and on the materials used for its exterior walls.
The warehouse is very similar in style to the main house but with a more solid and closed off lookThe site is bordered by a low wooden fence and surrounded by gorgeous tall trees and lots of greeneryThe secluded nature of the site gives this place a very picturesque lookThe entrance is marked by a glazed wall section that gives a peek inside the living areasThe house is a redesign and reconstruction of the old building which used to sit on this landThe interior is simplistic and modern, enhances by glamorous lighting and a beautiful panoramaThe outdoor area suffered minimal changes, now featuring a beautiful green lawn that surrounds both structures
