The architects at SAOTA recently completed an amazing residence in St. Tropez, France which seems to have it all. It’s not an opulent house and the focus of its design is not on grandeur but that doesn’t mean it’s not impressive. In fact, it’s a pretty amazing house no matter how you look at it. It has great views of a nearby pine forest, free access to a large garden, a swimming pool in its backyard and even a boule court among the trees.
The surrounding pine forest provides the perfect backdrop for this amazing Saint Tropez residenceNature is an important part of the house, being the most influential feature in its designThe rear-facing side of the house opens fully and embraces the slope, making the most of its exposure to the forest
As the case is with most residences, the most impressive side is not the only visible from the street but the one facing the backyard. This exquisite residence is fully open towards the outdoor terrace, the sloping garden, the sun-bathing terrace, the swimming pool and the pine forest which provides a wonderful backdrop for all of these features.
The house is slightly elevated in relation to the swimming pool and to the poolside lounge areaThe view of the pool and the sun-bathing terrace from inside the house is really great, especially considering the elevationThe house makes the most of its surroundings and location by featuring seamlessly connected indoor-outdoor areas
In contrast with the rear of the residence, its street-facing side features a solid and closed facade with only a few openings that are either long and horizontal or narrow and vertical. These openings let light into specific areas of the house without compromising privacy. The entrance is quite interesting, featuring a massive front door with a huge and sculptural handle.
The street-facing facade is solid and mostly closed, featuring vertical and horizontal openings that let light in specific areas of the houseThe social spaces of the house have a very close connection with the outdoors, featuring sliding glass doors and frameless windowsSeveral galleries and double-height spaces are spread throughout the house and are decorating with eye-catching artwork and majestic light fixtures
The opposite side of the house has large and frameless windows which provide panoramic views of the garden and pool area as well as the forest beyond them. They let in lots of natural sunlight and ensure a very close and pleasant connection between the indoor living spaces and the outdoor functions. The rear facade also has this huge opening which leads into a double-height space with a stunning chandelier.
The living area is large, open and has a view of the garden and poolside area. It’s also connected to the kitchen and the dining spaceThe kitchen and the dining area are connected but they each maintain their individualityThe chandelier hanging above the dining table gives the space a luxurious and sophisticated look
Speaking of chandeliers, the one in the dining area is really glamorous and eye-catching, giving the space a luxurious and sophisticated look. In contrast with it, the furniture and the decorations are very simple and feature a classy blend of looks and functionality.
The kitchen has a window backsplash with a view of the garden. It brings in light as well as colorThe color palette used throughout is simple and mostly focused on neutral. This way the views are even more amazing
The lounge, kitchen and dining area share an open floor plan and on the same level there’s also a guest bedroom. Between these two zones there’s a courtyard garden with a small pond and a large and very beautiful olive tree. The bedroom is decorated with neutral colors and simple and natural materials just like the rest of the residence. You can see pieces from the owner’s own art collection being displayed in key areas throughout the residence. They sometimes add a touch of color to the decor or serve as focal points. These strategically-placed gallery spaces give the house a very personal and chic look.
The bedrooms are open to the outdoors too. They’re also cozy and intimate and have an increased level of privacy compared to the social zoneThe bathroom spaces are bright and spacious too. They have their own cool views of the surroundings
As you can see, this is an amazing residence and we wouldn’t want to change anything about it. We like the simplicity of the interior design, the sophisticated touch that the artwork and the views give to the interior spaces, the seamless connection between them and the outside world and, of course, the amazing backdrop that the forest provides. It’s like a natural barrier that allows the property to have a sense of privacy while remaining open.
A small courtyard garden separates the living area from a guest bedroom which is situated on the same level
