A while back studio Duda Porto Arquitetura came up with a design for a tiny cabin, a structure that could potentially be used in a lot of different environments. It could function as a home, a guest suite or it could be part of a hotel or a resort. For the exhibition which took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the entire structure was put together in 15 days. For residential use, this little house could be finished in only 2 months. It’s prefabricated and can be transported and assembled on site which greatly reduces the impact on the environment and offers more flexibility in general.
Its design is simple and the overall shape is meant to resemble a typical house with a gabled roof and a clean and minimal shape overall. A lot of different configurations are possible based on this modular design. Several units can be connected to create a larger structure or they can be extended based on the users’ needs. The main module measures 7.95 meters x 4.30 meters with together with the attached bathroom (5.10 square meters) adds up to a total of 39.30 square meters.
The prefab module has a cabin-like design with simple lines and a modern aestheticLarge windows and glazed surfaces ensure a strong connection between the building and its surroundings
The module features a durable and sturdy steel frame with thermal acoustic cladding, OSB wood and concrete panels for a clean and modern look. Large glass panels let in the natural light, reducing energy consumption. This tiny house can also be fitted with solar panels and rainwater harvesting tanks which emphasizes its sustainability. Furthermore, it was designed to easily adapt to its surroundings and in that sense a series of outdoor features are available such as a treehouse, a pet house, a vegetable garden and an outdoor patio with a double-sided fireplace. Any combination can be added to create the perfect configuration for each individual environment.
