This right here is a house that was installed in only 2 days which is impressive even for a prefab home. This is a project completed by studio MB architecture using their prototype insta house concept. Everything was prefabricated and then transported on the site for installation. This was possible due to the fact that the house is made out of six repurposed shipping containers. The result was this modern vacation retreat with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a kitchen and a spacious living area.
The house was built around a large oak tree which occupies the center of the siteOne of the containers forms a cantilevered volume on the top floor, making the most of the views
This modular house was built using several 40 foot long containers as well as a 10 foot long one which cantilevers off the site on the upper floor. They were transformed and connected in order to create a seamless flow between the spaces and also to encourage indoor-outdoor transitions in general. The double-height living area is the central point of the day zone, with the private areas being situated upstairs or to the side. The floors are connected by an extra wide staircase with steps that double as sitting areas. All of the interior spaces have full-height windows which exposes them to the beautiful surroundings and ensures sufficient natural light throughout the day. Outside there’s a pool with a small deck and lots of greenery around it.
The house is structured into two main volumes connected by a glazed corridorThe ground floor spaces have direct access into the garden and have glazed doorsThe exterior of the containers is black which allows the house to better blend into the surroundingsThe house was built on a triangular site and with a limited budget which raised a few challenges
The house has a simple geometry with only one small container extending over the sideThe interior spaces are very open and airy thanks to the large windows and light color palettesThe living area is a double-height space with glass doors and windows and a simple and cozy decorEarthy colors and warm nuances are mixed in with all the neutrals, creating a very inviting feelThe bedrooms are very simple-looking but at the same time really stylish and relaxingThe large windows let in lots of light but also frame beautiful views of the surrounding landscapeThe kitchen opens onto the main living area but acts as a separate spaceThe staircase which connects the two floors has wide steps which can also be used for sitting
