A house with its entire exterior clad in raw, unfinished concrete doesn’t really sound very welcoming but some architects may surprise you. One of them is Luciano Kruk who designed this wonderful residence from Dique Luján, Argentina. It’s called 10 House and it’s part of a gated community which opens up to a beautiful lagoon. The exterior facades and the roof look very similar and make it seem as if the entire house is cast in concrete. In contrast, the interior walls are almost exclusively white and that gives the spaces a fresh and airy vibe. The project was just completed this year.
The house is open towards the rear garden, featuring full-height windows downstairsThe roof has a surprisingly lightweight appearance and gives the house a sculptural lookThe roof extends over the backyard deck creating a pleasant shaded areaAt the core of the house stands a double-height volume which accommodates the social areasAt the back of the house there’s an extensive green area and a large swimming pool
The internal spaces of this concrete house are organized around a large double-height social area. The kitchen and the TV area are separate spaces but still remain connected to the main social core and feel like a part of the open floor plan. The master bedroom has an en-suite dressing room and wide windows which stretch across the wall to capture the best view of the lagoon. The house also include two other separate bedrooms, a studio used as a working space by the owners and a covered parking area for two cars. All of these areas are complemented by extensive outdoor spaces and a large swimming pool which make it easy to enjoy nature.
A series of skylights offer indirect sunlight for the living areasThe master bedroom features a set of wide, horizontally narrow windows which overlook the lagoonThe swimming pool is rectangular and encased in concrete, just like the houseAlthough concrete is a very cold material and its color is neutral, that doesn’t make the house seem austereThe raw concrete exterior gives the residence a lot of characterThe rear section of the garden opens up to a lagoon and that provides wonderful viewsThe transition between indoor and outdoor spaces is very smooth and natural, encouraging inhabitants to enjoy natureThe sides of the house have solid blind walls with no windows which ensures privacy from the neighboring homes
