This is a house for the future. It’s a project that was completed in 2019 by studio F9 Productions. Their clients wanted this to be a home where they could grow old together so the place had to be designed with that in mind. As such, it’s a very efficient house which makes use of solar energy, passive heating and all the beautiful landscape which surrounds it.
The house has a simple and clean geometry and a modern overall design
It has a high, sloped roof with large overhangs which offer shade and protection from the fun during summer as well as protection from the snow during winter. The house itself is partially elevated due to the uneven nature of the site and the topography of the area.
The colors and finishes used both inside and out are muted and simple
The palette of materials used throughout the project include steel, masonry and glass for the exterior which were chosen in response to the constant wildfire danger in this area. For the interior the designers chose concrete slabs for the floors and lots of wood for the walls and the ceilings which gives the house a really warm and comfortable feel. The high sloped ceilings allow the rooms to look and feel spacious and airy and the floor-to-ceiling windows let in lots of natural sunlight. At the same time, the house also maximizes the beautiful views around it. This is a house that’s simple and efficient without also being austere or lacking any features.
