Every house is customized according to the needs and requirements of those that call it home. Some want their home to be warm and cozy, others want it to look cool and some want it to be great for entertaining guests. On top of that, there are always details and special features that are added to the design. This house in Brooklyn, US was created with both humans and cats in mind.

The owners wanted the house to be a beautiful and welcoming home for them but also for their two cats. They went to BFDO Architects for help with the design and the team did a great job at customizing every aspect of the house. They managed to create a perfect hybrid. The owners love books and artwork and they also love their shy cats so the house got a huge bookcase unit that covers an entire wall and includes special built-in shelves and ramps that the cats can climb on and sit on to observe the entire space below.

The living room bookcase allows the owners to display their extensive book collection and some artwork and at the same time offers hiding spaces for the cats where they can go to escape from guests. They even have special trap doors that give them access to the rooms above. They can go in and out whenever they want and nobody can follow them.

There are four main areas in the social zone. One is the living room, another is the media room and there’s also the dining area and the kitchen. They’re all connected in one way or another. The front door which has been painted in a bright shade of pink opens onto the living room. The dining area is at the back and a staircase right in front of the door offers access to the upstairs area. There’s a small powder room hidden under the stairs as well.

Surprisingly, there’s a cat-free zone in the house. It’s a space designed for guests and it’s situated downstairs. Like the rest of the house, the space is tastefully decorated with artwork and books and furnished with comfortable and stylish pieces.
